Crocodiles: gatekeepers of the rivers

May 15, 2013 · 1 Comment · Animals

There are 23 species of crocodiles. Here is my favorite:  the indo-pacific or the salt water.

A 12 year old boy was with his friends in eastern Indonesia and was killed and eaten by a crocodile! Crocodiles are masters of camouflage who go underwater and stay still. They can hold their breath for hours at a time waiting for prey to walk by. Crocodiles are not the same species as alligators. Crocodiles can be found all over the world while alligators can be found  only in southeastern USA and in some parts of China.

Crocodiles have the biggest bite force of the animal kingdom I would not like to meet a crocodile in the water. You should not approach one they can run up to 10-11 kph (7mph)

Bull Shark: The street fighter of the ocean

March 7, 2013 · 1 Comment · Animals

The Bull shark, also known by the Zambezi shark, is the deadliest shark in my opinion. Some people think the great white shark or the tiger shark but the reason I think the bull shark is the most dangerous is it rams its victims before they attack.

They can live in fresh water. There have been a number of fatal unprovoked attacks in fresh water and obviously  salt water. In the ocean, the bull shark normally attacks in warm, shallow water. The most attacks are in the shark capital of the world, Florida, and South Africa.

Don’t worry though, you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than getting attacked by a shark.

Cuneiform: World’s First Writing

February 16, 2013 · 2 Comments · Learning

Cuneiform originated in Mesopatamia and was the earliest text ever.  It was symbols pressed into a circular clay.  It had about 1000 symbols.  They thought it would be easier to write it with a stylus.

Cuneiform was used for school text and also described military success.  These symbols were use to record livestock, barley, wheat, basically everything that was traded.

They used reeds as styluses to write in the clay tablets. They were also carved in to large stones, metal, and high mountain faces.  The reed stylus had a v- shaped point.

I think cuneiform is cool to look at.

Have you ever heard of cuneiform?

The Alligator Gar: It’s not a reptile

January 17, 2013 · 6 Comments · Animals

The Alligator Gar is the biggest fish in North America. The biggest Alligator Gar ever recorded was 14 feet long. That’s about three  picnic tables in length! They were almost wiped off the planet because of  over fishing and because they were accused of vicious attacks on humans. These attacks have never been confirmed.

People used a fishing rod to pull the gar to the surface then used a bow and arrow to get through the armor-like scales.

Native Americans used their scales for arrowheads and jewelry. Their scales are so sharp that even if your arm goes toward the scales when your holding it you will cut your arm open.

Have you ever heard of the Alligator Gar?

The Alligator Snapping turtle

December 6, 2012 · 11 Comments · Animals

The Alligator  snapping turtle can have a bite force of 1004 pounds of  pressure that is close to a lion and a shark combined!  And more than some adult hyenas who can break bones. The Alligator snapping turtle can weigh 94 pounds –that’s more then a 6 year old. This turtle can have 5 times more jaw strength than the regular snapping turtle. Why did the Turtle Cross the Path (EXPLORE: #118 9/5/2011)

Do you have turtles where you live? What type are they? Do you think people should have turtles for pets?

March 10, 2012 · 4 Comments · Learning

I like a post by Bekkam it is a good post because the video is crazy and he says who it was and he tells you one of the ways to score in a shootout.

I like the post by   Blake’s blog. He tells us what his dad does. It would be cool to be a stunt man.

Roots of Empathy

January 16, 2012 · 2 Comments · Learning

I just learned that we are going to have a baby.  His name is Elliot and he is almost two months old and he is cute. We can barely touch the baby because he can not fight germs very well.  Worst case scenario would be he could get very sick and possibly die.  That’s why we can only touch his foot but really not  much else.  Also,  we can’t touch his toys either because he will put them in his mouth.  That’s what babies always do.

Ball Girl

December 10, 2011 · 6 Comments · Uncategorized

Did you know that sometimes they pick kids to come on the feild in minor league baseball?   These kids pick up balls and give them back to the pitcher. The video you are going to see is amazing because the girl jumps off two walls to catch a ball.

Did you think that was real? If you did, wrong! That was for a sports drink advertisement for Gatorade. The stunt used pullys to help her get in the air.

I wonder if anyone could do this trick. What do you think?

Madness

December 2, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

All is peaceful in the sky,  plenty of birds to eat and hang gliders… yummy.  I live in the jungle but I spend my days in the sky. I live near a town and everyone there is scared to see me. They try to shoot me down with missiles but I am too fast for them and I flee to the jungle.  But  in the night,  brave towns people try to find me. They just  see a flash as they come back for me but they go insane from what they see. They hear screams but never come back!

Looks just like Mustang

Everyone in my family loves pets. We have dogs and chickens too. Maybe you think I live on a farm, but I don’t.

I have a cat and its name is Mustang. I love him a lot. Well, I have a brother and he has a cat too. It was a Valentine gift from my mom and dad. He named it Ranger.

Our dogs are named Riley, Bailey, and George. Riley is my dog, George is my sister’s.  Did I say that I have a sister? Back to the point. Bailey is my dad’s dog.

What kind of pets do you have–dogs, cats, fish? What ever you have please tell me!
